Description
Volumio RIVO+ High-End Digital Streamer Transport
RIVO+ is Volumio’s purpose-built digital transport for systems that already have a DAC, adding dedicated output hardware, improved MEMS clocking, I2S/DSD over HDMI and a 12V trigger to the original RIVO concept.
RIVO+ keeps the job deliberately focused: get music from streaming services, local storage or the network and hand a clean digital signal to the DAC that follows it. That makes it a strong choice when you are already happy with the conversion stage in an integrated amplifier, preamp or standalone DAC.
Compared with RIVO, the Plus version moves S/PDIF and AES/EBU generation to a dedicated ASIC, upgrades USB clocking and adds I2S/DSD over HDMI. These are system-level refinements aimed at customers who are choosing the transport and DAC separately rather than looking for an all-in-one streamer.
A Digital Transport First
Built around the DAC you already want to use
Coaxial S/PDIF and AES/EBU outputs are generated by dedicated hardware and support PCM up to 192kHz/24-bit plus DSD64 via DoP. USB and I2S/DSD over HDMI extend the high-resolution path to compatible DACs up to PCM 768kHz/32-bit and DSD256.
Volumio Premium Built In
Streaming and local libraries without another box
Volumio Premium brings Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz, AirPlay, UPnP/DLNA and local or USB libraries into one control environment. Gigabit Ethernet and dual-band Wi-Fi cover permanent rack installations as well as rooms where running cable is impractical.
System Integration
Trigger control and practical output choice
The 12V trigger output is useful in a separated transport/DAC/amplifier system. Connection choice should follow the DAC: USB offers the widest headline format support, while AES/EBU, coaxial or I2S can be the better physical fit depending on the downstream component.

Important Notes
- RIVO+ does not contain an analogue DAC output; it requires a compatible external DAC or a component with digital input.
- I2S over HDMI is not the same as HDMI audio/video and pinout compatibility should be checked against the DAC.
The Audio Experts Take
RIVO+ is the one we would choose when the transport itself is meant to stay in the system through future DAC changes. The useful upgrade over RIVO is not extra features for their own sake; it is the broader choice of digital interfaces, dedicated output hardware and easier integration with a serious two-box or three-box digital front end.
If the DAC already sounds the way you want, RIVO+ lets you improve the network and digital-source side without paying for another analogue stage.
