Volumio RIVO Digital Streamer Transport

RIVO is a focused digital network transport for listeners who already own the DAC they want to use, combining Volumio Premium with galvanically isolated S/PDIF and AES/EBU plus high-resolution USB audio output.

Rather than duplicating a DAC that may already be inside a good integrated amplifier, preamplifier or standalone converter, RIVO concentrates on network playback and digital delivery. It is a clean way to modernise the streaming side of an otherwise established hi-fi system.

The architecture isolates coaxial and AES/EBU outputs through transformers and uses dedicated power filtering around the internal sections. USB extends format support further for compatible DACs.

Keep the streamer and converter as separate choices

RIVO offers USB, coaxial S/PDIF and balanced AES/EBU digital outputs. USB supports PCM up to 768kHz/32-bit and DSD256, while S/PDIF and AES/EBU support PCM up to 192kHz/24-bit.

One interface for network and local playback

Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz, AirPlay, UPnP/DLNA, internet radio and attached or network storage are handled through Volumio OS. Gigabit Ethernet is our preference for a fixed installation, with dual-band Wi-Fi available when cabling is not practical.

Choosing Between RIVO and RIVO+

The original remains the simpler value option

RIVO+ adds dedicated S/PDIF/AES hardware, I2S/DSD over HDMI, improved MEMS clocking and a trigger output. If your DAC only needs USB, coaxial or AES/EBU, the original RIVO remains a very sensible transport.

The Audio Experts Take

RIVO is easy to understand in the right system: if you already own a DAC you like, there is no reason to buy another one inside the streamer. It keeps the source compact and gives you Volumio’s library and streaming platform without changing the analogue character of the system.

For a USB-only DAC the original RIVO is particularly strong value. Move to RIVO+ when I2S, trigger control or the revised S/PDIF/AES hardware actually matters to the system.
