Volumio PRECISO Dual-Mono High-Resolution DAC & Preamp

PRECISO is Volumio’s standalone dual-mono DAC, using two ESS ES9039Q2M converters, separate analogue and digital power regulation, USB and I2S high-resolution inputs and hardware volume control for direct power-amplifier use.

PRECISO is designed for a system where the DAC is chosen independently from the network transport. Pair it with RIVO or RIVO+ for a complete Volumio digital front end, or use it with another USB, I2S, coaxial or optical source.

The dual-mono architecture gives each channel its own ES9039Q2M path, while the hardware gain control allows the DAC to act as a digital preamp when the rest of the system is suitable for direct connection.

Separate left and right conversion paths

Two ES9039Q2M DACs sit in mirrored circuits with separate regulation around analogue and digital sections. A precision MEMS clock and dedicated USB interface support the timing and data path.

High-Resolution Digital Inputs

USB and I2S for the widest format support

USB-B and I2S/DSD over HDMI support up to PCM 768kHz/32-bit and DSD512. Coaxial and optical inputs support PCM up to 192kHz/24-bit, covering conventional CD transports, televisions and digital source components.

Hardware Preamp Mode

Direct connection without a separate line preamp

Hardware gain control covers 0dB to -99dB in fine steps. Balanced XLR and RCA outputs make PRECISO practical with power amplifiers, integrated amplifiers or active loudspeakers, provided system gain is planned correctly.

The Audio Experts Take

PRECISO is the natural partner for RIVO or RIVO+ when the customer wants the Volumio ecosystem but prefers the streamer and DAC as separate components. That split makes upgrades cleaner and gives the DAC useful input flexibility beyond the network source.

The preamp mode is valuable in a minimalist system, but we would still plan gain structure and power-amplifier behaviour before removing a conventional preamp from the chain.
