Description

Valerion Aetherion Max 4K RGB Triple Laser Ultra Short Throw Projector

The Aetherion Max brings a 4K UHD image, RGB triple-laser illumination, 3,300 ISO-lumen rated brightness and a 0.2:1 ultra-short-throw lens to a home cinema projector designed to sit close to the screen.

Its combination of Dolby Vision, HDR10+, IMAX Enhanced, Google TV and fast gaming modes makes Aetherion Max an alternative to a very large television for a carefully planned living room or dedicated media space. Unlike the VisionMaster Pro 2, it uses ultra-short-throw optics, so the projector belongs in front of the screen rather than at the back of the room.

Because tiny changes in UST projector height or distance create noticeable changes in image alignment, furniture depth, screen choice and the position of the screen frame matter as much as the projector specification.

RGB Triple Laser and 4K UHD Detail

A wide-colour engine built for large-screen viewing

The RGB triple-laser engine is rated at 3,300 ISO lumens and a claimed 110% Rec.2020 gamut. A 0.47-inch DLP device produces a 4K UHD displayed image using pixel shifting. This is a different technology from native 4K imaging panels and should be understood on its own terms.

The high brightness rating gives useful headroom for larger screens, but actual image brightness and colour will vary with picture mode, screen gain, size and room lighting. At this level we would choose a screen with the projector rather than treating it as an accessory to decide on later.

0.2:1 Ultra-Short-Throw Projection

Large pictures from a projector positioned close to the wall

The Aetherion Max supports 80 to 200-inch images at a 0.2:1 throw ratio. An ultra-short-throw layout keeps the projector near the screen, which can avoid the long HDMI and power runs needed by rear-mounted projection. It also places considerable demands on screen flatness and the installation surface.

For a permanent setup, we recommend an accurately levelled cabinet and a screen designed for ultra-short-throw projection. Use the manufacturer's throw chart to confirm the precise cabinet-to-screen spacing before ordering furniture or mounting the screen.

Contrast, HDR and Image Control

Mechanical iris and Enhanced Black Level processing

The manufacturer claims a 6,000:1 native contrast ratio with iris and 60,000:1 EBL dynamic contrast. These are different measurements and should not be compared as though they describe the same operating mode. The motorised iris and laser-based black-level processing give useful adjustment options when calibrating for a darker movie room.

Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, HLG, IMAX Enhanced, Filmmaker Mode and dynamic tone mapping provide broad compatibility with current movie sources. Good light control still matters: a reflective living-room ceiling or large windows can reduce perceived contrast regardless of the stated ratio.

Gaming and Responsive Video

High-refresh signal compatibility with sensible expectations

Features include VRR, ALLM and Dolby Vision Gaming, with a manufacturer-claimed response as low as 1ms in supported gaming conditions. A 4K/120Hz input signal does not mean the DLP engine displays 4K at 120 separate full-resolution frames per second: its 4K UHD display output is rated at up to 60Hz. Confirm the intended console or PC output mode during system setup.

Google TV and Modern Connections

Streaming and system integration without extra clutter

Google TV runs on the MT9655 platform with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, Gigabit Ethernet, AirPlay 2, Chromecast and Miracast provide networking and playback choices.

Connections include three HDMI 2.1 ports, USB-C DisplayPort, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, Ethernet and optical digital audio. HDMI eARC helps connect a compatible soundbar or AV receiver. Source routing should be planned around the actual capabilities of the TV audio equipment and game devices.

Audio, Furniture and Installation

Think of the projector, screen and sound together

The integrated speaker system is useful for everyday playback, but a projector at this level deserves a suitably matched sound system. Where the display is part of a dedicated cinema, a separate AV receiver and properly placed speakers will provide much better flexibility for surround sound and bass integration.

At approximately 562 × 323 × 139.5mm and 8.75kg, the projector needs a stable, ventilated surface and reliable access for cables. A UST-specific ALR screen can be valuable in brighter living rooms, but screen material must be matched to the projector and seating positions. Important Notes

  • Aetherion Max is an ultra-short-throw model and is not interchangeable with VisionMaster Max or Pro 2 mounting arrangements.
  • A flat, accurately aligned UST-compatible screen is strongly recommended; confirm screen and cabinet geometry before installation.
  • The 4K UHD displayed image uses a 0.47-inch DLP imaging system rather than a native 4K panel.
  • Screen, furniture, mounting accessories and external audio equipment should not be assumed included.
  • Confirm current Australian stock, warranty and installation requirements with The Audio Experts.

The Audio Experts Take

The Aetherion Max is a strong candidate for customers who want a very large picture without a ceiling-mounted projector. Its 0.2:1 optics can simplify the overall room layout, but a good UST installation requires more precise furniture and screen planning than the compact chassis might suggest.

For a bright living room we would put considerable attention into a suitable UST ALR screen and where the seats sit relative to windows. In a darker room, the iris and contrast controls become more interesting. Pair it with proper external audio and an appropriately sized screen, and the Aetherion Max is capable of anchoring a serious entertainment system.
