The Rega Planar 3 RS Edition is the Planar 3 platform taken all the way. It is supplied as one single, factory locked package designed to remove guesswork and deliver the performance Rega know the design is capable of. This is not a pick and mix product. There are no variants. The RS Edition includes the stiffer High Pressure Laminate (HPL) plinth, Rega double brace technology, the handmade RB330 tonearm, the Nd5 moving magnet cartridge factory fitted, a custom matched Neo MK2 PSU, the Reference EBLT belt, and a CNC machined pulley, all working together as one tuned system.

Why the RS Edition exists

Rega’s approach is deliberately different to the heavy plinth school of turntable design. Instead of storing energy in mass, Rega focuses on a lightweight, ultra rigid structure to reduce energy absorption and resonance. The RS Edition takes the Planar 3 design philosophy to the next level with a High Pressure Laminate plinth and a double brace system mounted between the tonearm base and the main bearing to form a stressed beam assembly right where rigidity matters most.

Engineering highlights that matter in real listening

HPL plinth and double brace structure
The RS Edition uses a High Pressure Laminate plinth finished in a dark brushed metallic look with high gloss black edging. Double brace technology increases rigidity between the arm mount and the main bearing, helping reduce resonance and keeping the cartridge stable so it can read the groove cleanly.

Neo MK2 PSU included, speed control done properly
The Neo MK2 PSU provides electronic speed change and fine speed adjustment. It uses a DSP generator built on a high stability crystal to produce a near perfect sinusoidal waveform to drive the 24 V motor. Fine speed adjustment is made via the rear panel using the supplied trim tool. This improves speed stability and helps reduce motor noise for a calmer, more accurate presentation.

Reference EBLT belt and CNC machined pulley
Drive accuracy is handled by Rega’s Reference EBLT belt and a CNC machined pulley. Rega manufacture the belt using highly accurate tooling, cryogenic freezing and barrelling to achieve cross sectional roundness. This matters because belt accuracy directly affects speed stability, pitch, and timing.

RB330 tonearm control
The handmade RB330 features a redesigned vertical bearing housing, improved spring housing, a low mass aluminium tonearm tube, and hand selected bearings. The goal is extreme stability with near friction free movement, improving tracking and information retrieval from the groove.

Nd5 moving magnet cartridge, factory fitted
Nd5 is a modern Rega MM design developed over 10 years. It uses an Nd N55 neodymium magnet, new generator geometry for accurate channel balance, and an optimised pole gap for improved linearity and crosstalk. Miniaturised parallel coils are wound in house using 38 micron wire with 1275 turns to reduce inductance and improve high frequency response. The stylus is a perfect elliptical nude diamond on an aluminium cantilever, chosen for tracking accuracy and detail retrieval. Being factory fitted means correct alignment and true ready to play setup.

System matching and setup notes

• Phono stage: Nd5 is a moving magnet cartridge, so you need an amplifier or phono stage with an MM phono input
• Placement: A rigid, level surface improves bass, timing and tracking
• Hum avoidance: Keep the Neo MK2 PSU positioned away from the turntable and phono leads if possible
• Tracking force: Set Nd5 tracking pressure to 1.75 g
• Care: Keep records and stylus clean, and close the lid when not playing to reduce dust
