A complete passive landscape audio system combining four discreet two-way satellite speakers with a 10-inch dual-voice-coil subwoofer for broad, even coverage across gardens, patios and outdoor entertaining areas.

The AS41SYS mkII takes a distributed approach to outdoor sound. Instead of asking one or two wall-mounted speakers to play loudly across a large open area, four compact satellites can be positioned through the landscape and aimed back towards the listening zone. The result is a system that can cover more space while keeping individual speakers visually restrained and closer to the people actually listening.

The package includes four 4.5-inch two-way landscape satellites, four in-ground mounting stakes and one 10-inch dual-voice-coil subwoofer. It is a passive system, so a suitable two-channel amplifier and outdoor-rated speaker cable are required. The layout can also be expanded with additional AS4SAT satellites where a larger area needs more even coverage.

Distributed Outdoor Sound

Four smaller speakers let the system spread music through the garden instead of forcing a single pair to do all the work.

Each satellite uses a 4.5-inch injection-moulded polypropylene woofer with a 19mm PEI Mylar tweeter. Origin specifies roughly 70-degree coverage and recommends positioning the satellites around 1.8 to 2.4 metres apart where the site allows. For an installer, that gives useful control over where the sound is concentrated and can help reduce the temptation to run one speaker excessively loud just to reach the far end of the entertaining area.

10-inch Landscape Subwoofer

The dedicated subwoofer handles the low-frequency work so the satellite speakers can concentrate on coverage and clarity.

The AS41SUB10 uses a 10-inch polypropylene dual-voice-coil driver and can be installed as an in-ground burial subwoofer in suitable free-draining soil or used in a hardscape installation. Only the necessary upper section remains visually exposed in a typical buried installation, making it easier to add worthwhile bass without placing a conventional cabinet on the patio.

Subwoofer location deserves some planning. Origin recommends keeping it away from standing water and notes that positioning it nearer a wall or other solid boundary can increase bass output. Drainage, trenching and future service access should be sorted before the garden is finished around it.

Weather-Resistant Construction

IPX6-rated enclosures and UV-resistant materials are designed for permanent outdoor use.

The system uses colour-moulded composite satellite enclosures, UV-treated HDPE baffles and powder-coated steel grilles. The subwoofer enclosure uses polycomposite PVC. Outdoor rating does not remove the need for good installation practice: cable joins should be properly protected, the subwoofer needs suitable drainage, and the system should be positioned so water cannot collect around electrical connections.

Amplifier and Cable Planning

This is a passive 4.1 landscape speaker system and requires external amplification.

The complete system is rated at 4 to 8 ohms with 120W program and 240W peak power handling. Origin's installation documentation shows the speakers divided between left and right parallel cable runs, with the dual-voice-coil subwoofer connected across both channels. The layout is intended to work from a conventional two-channel amplifier, but amplifier selection should be based on the final number of satellites, cable length and desired output level rather than chosen from a headline wattage figure alone.

Cable gauge becomes increasingly important as outdoor runs get longer. Origin recommends 16AWG for shorter runs, 14AWG as distance increases and 12AWG for longer runs. For a permanent garden installation we would also plan around proper direct-burial cable, weather-protected joins and a cable route that can still be serviced later.

Expandable Coverage

The supplied four-satellite system can be expanded to as many as eight satellites for broader coverage.

Origin rates the standard four-satellite arrangement for coverage up to approximately 1,500 sq ft, with an eight-satellite layout extending this to around 2,500 sq ft. Those figures are useful planning guides rather than guarantees because outdoor boundaries, landscaping, ambient noise and listening level all affect the result. For larger gardens, adding speakers closer to the listening areas is usually a better design strategy than simply increasing volume from fewer locations.

The AS41SYS mkII addresses that well by putting four compact speakers close to the listening area and handing bass duties to a dedicated landscape subwoofer.
