The Monitor Audio Vestra W15 is a large 15-inch ported powered subwoofer with a 500W Class-D amplifier, high-excursion C-CAM driver and DSP bass presets, designed for systems needing strong cinema impact and substantial low-frequency output.

The W15 is the largest Vestra model and uses a different cabinet approach from the sealed W10 and W12. Its ported enclosure and 381mm driver are intended to move more air and deliver greater bass output, especially during demanding film effects and music played at higher levels.

This is a substantial piece of equipment: 540 × 526 × 556mm with accessories fitted and 30.3kg in weight. Plan the installation around the full cabinet and the rear ports rather than assuming it will fit where an ordinary compact subwoofer was placed. Monitor Audio rates its in-room response at 17–200Hz (-6dB) and its peak CTA-2010-B output at 117dB.

The large 381mm high-excursion C-CAM driver combines a rigid ceramic-coated aluminium magnesium cone with triple-layer suspension. That construction is designed to help the cone track large excursions under amplifier control, particularly during repeated low-frequency impacts and sustained soundtrack content.

Choose it for the output you need, not just the driver size

The W15's rear-ported enclosure gives it a different set of strengths from the sealed Vestra models. The port contributes to low-frequency output, which is useful in larger rooms and more ambitious cinema systems. It also means the rear of the cabinet needs breathing space, and placement against furniture or into a tight cavity is less appropriate.

500W Class-D Amplification

Useful output, with the correct power-rating context

The 500W figure is specified as instantaneous RMS amplifier output. It should not be treated as a continuous-power measurement or compared with unrelated ratings. Paired with the larger cabinet and driver, it gives the W15 its own performance role even though the W12 carries the same nominal amplifier rating.

Set bass level, then work on room integration

The rear panel offers Impact, Movie and Music presets, volume adjustment, a variable low-pass filter and 0°/180° phase switching. These controls are straightforward for a properly planned installation. For an AV receiver, initial calibration and crossover management should generally be performed as part of the receiver setup, rather than attempting to solve every room problem with a bass preset.

Inputs for Stereo and Home Theatre

A dedicated LFE RCA input works with AV receivers and surround processors, while the stereo RCA inputs can take a suitable line-level feed in a music system. A 12V trigger input and automatic signal-sensing power mode allow the W15 to integrate into equipment racks and larger systems where coordinated start-up is useful.

Give the ports space and plan the route into the room

The W15 is better suited to an open floor position with practical clearance around the rear vents and access to its controls. Corner positioning may increase output but can also make room modes more noticeable. At 30.3kg, check doors, stairs, lifting access and the final floor position before delivery. A stable surface and careful two-person handling are sensible during installation.

Choose the W15 when the room and listening expectations genuinely call for more physical bass output. Its ported enclosure is a meaningful change from the W10 and W12, and it is particularly appropriate for dedicated home theatres or larger shared living spaces.

We would not automatically choose it for a small room simply because it is the biggest Vestra. The cabinet takes significant space, the rear vents need clearance, and room modes still affect what reaches the seating area. For some multi-seat rooms, two smaller subwoofers positioned and calibrated well can be the better system choice.
