Description
Monitor Audio Vestra W12 12-inch Powered Subwoofer
The Monitor Audio Vestra W12 is a 12-inch sealed powered subwoofer combining a high-excursion C-CAM driver, triple-layer suspension, 500W Class-D amplification and three DSP modes for music and home theatre systems needing deeper bass and more output headroom.
The W12 sits in the middle of the Vestra subwoofer range. Its larger driver and amplifier provide an increase in bass capability over the W10 while preserving a sealed cabinet, making it an appealing option when you want more low-frequency authority without moving to the much larger ported W15.
At 385 × 371 × 401mm, the W12 needs more floor space than the W10 but remains easier to accommodate than the W15. Monitor Audio's specified response is 17–200Hz in-room at -6dB with a 115dB peak CTA-2010-B output figure. Actual bass at the seat will depend strongly on placement and room acoustics.
12-inch C-CAM Driver
More excursion capability within a sealed enclosure
The 305mm C-CAM cone is built for substantial low-frequency movement while maintaining rigidity. Triple-layer suspension gives the moving assembly additional support under excursion. The aim is to retain control while reproducing demanding soundtrack and music content, rather than relying on a larger cone alone.
Sealed Cabinet with Useful Headroom
A flexible choice for music and home theatre
The W12 retains the sealed alignment used by the W10. That keeps port clearance out of the placement equation and helps make the cabinet manageable in a living room. It remains important to test positions, because a sealed subwoofer can still sound uneven when the room creates strong peaks and cancellations.
500W Class-D Amplifier
Output for demanding low-frequency passages
The amplifier is specified at 500W instantaneous RMS output and works with the subwoofer's DSP system. This is a specific manufacturer measurement, not an equivalent continuous-power promise. For medium-sized rooms and listeners seeking stronger cinema effects, the extra available output may be more useful than the headline difference in quoted low-frequency extension.
Three Bass Presets
Choose a sensible starting point, then calibrate
Impact, Movie and Music presets adjust the W12's response for different listening priorities. They are accessible at the rear panel, alongside volume, low-pass and phase controls. Choose a setting after the subwoofer is positioned, and if using an AV receiver, let its bass management and room correction handle the wider system integration.
Stereo RCA, LFE and 12V Trigger
Connect to the system you already have
The separate LFE RCA input is intended for AV receivers and processors with a dedicated subwoofer output. Stereo line-level RCA inputs support suitable two-channel equipment. Signal-sensing auto power, a 12V trigger input and a 0°/180° phase switch provide practical ways to integrate the W12 with different electronics.
One W12 or Two Smaller Subwoofers?
Consider the seating layout as carefully as total output
A single W12 can provide meaningful output in a typical living room, but room modes may create inconsistent bass between seats. Two subwoofers positioned and calibrated well can offer smoother coverage, though that requires appropriate signal routing and setup. If the room is unusually large or cinema output is the priority, consider the W15's larger ported design.

Important Notes
- The W12 is a sealed active subwoofer, not the ported W15. Do not use W15 dimensions or installation clearance assumptions.
- Stereo RCA and LFE are line-level inputs. Connect to an appropriate subwoofer/pre-out, not a speaker-level amplifier terminal.
- Ensure the floor or equipment furniture safely supports the 18.3kg unit and allows rear access for setup.

The Audio Experts Take
The W12 is likely to be the best starting point in the Vestra range for customers who want one subwoofer to handle both a serious stereo system and regular home theatre use. It offers useful extra headroom over the W10 without committing to a large ported enclosure.
We would choose it by measuring the available space and thinking through how the room behaves at the listening position. A 12-inch sealed subwoofer is still sensitive to placement, and careful crossover and level matching can make a larger improvement than changing the preset repeatedly. For uneven multi-seat rooms, ask us about dual-subwoofer layout before automatically stepping up to a single W15.
