Description
Monitor Audio Vestra W10 10-inch Powered Subwoofer
The Monitor Audio Vestra W10 is a compact 10-inch sealed powered subwoofer with a 250W Class-D amplifier, high-excursion C-CAM driver and three DSP presets for adding controlled low-frequency support to stereo and home theatre systems.
A subwoofer has to fit the room as well as the audio system. The W10 keeps its cabinet relatively compact at 344 × 330 × 360mm, so it can work where the footprint of a larger 12- or 15-inch model is difficult to accommodate. Its sealed box avoids the need to leave a rear port breathing space, although room boundaries still affect bass response.
Monitor Audio specifies an in-room response down to 19Hz at -6dB and a CTA-2010-B peak output figure of 111dB. Those are different kinds of measurements: the first describes extension, while the second helps indicate output capability. Neither guarantees the same result at every listening position.
Compact Sealed Bass
A practical fit for smaller living rooms
The W10 uses a sealed cabinet to combine useful low-frequency extension with a modest footprint. It is well suited to smaller two-channel setups and everyday home theatres, particularly when floor space or furniture placement limits your options. Its cabinet still needs a firm, level surface and space for rear connections.
10-inch C-CAM Driver
Bass control starts with the moving parts
The 254mm high linear-excursion C-CAM driver uses a stiff, lightweight ceramic-coated aluminium magnesium cone. The design aims to reduce cone flex as the driver moves, helping the amplifier keep bass notes and effects under control. At this size, the W10 prioritises a compact enclosure rather than the maximum output available from the larger Vestra models.
250W Class-D Amplification
Power matched to the driver and cabinet
The high-efficiency Class-D amplifier carries a 250W instantaneous RMS output specification. This is the manufacturer's published rating, not a claim of indefinite continuous output. For realistic system matching, consider listening level and room volume as well as the wattage figure.
Three DSP Listening Modes
Make small, useful adjustments at the rear panel
Impact, Movie and Music presets provide different bass profiles without requiring an app. Start with the mode that complements your main speakers and room, then set level and crossover as part of the complete system. A preset cannot compensate for a subwoofer placed in a severe room null.
Connections and Everyday Control
Straightforward integration with AV or stereo electronics
A dedicated LFE RCA input suits an AV receiver's subwoofer output, while the stereo RCA inputs can accept a suitable analogue line-level feed. Rear controls include volume, low-pass adjustment, a 0°/180° phase switch and automatic signal sensing. The 12V trigger is useful where the rest of the system supports coordinated power control.
Placement and Dual-Subwoofer Options
Find smooth bass before chasing louder bass
Positioning a single W10 near a wall can add output, but may also accentuate a room mode. Try more than one practical location and run the AV receiver's speaker calibration after settling on a position. Two W10 units can be worth considering when bass varies substantially between seats, provided the receiver or processor supports the necessary integration.

Important Notes
- A powered subwoofer still needs an audio connection from a compatible receiver, processor or preamplifier; it does not receive surround audio wirelessly.
- The sealed cabinet can sit near a wall, but leave practical room for cables and controls.
- For AV systems, bass management and the main crossover are usually best handled by the receiver. Avoid applying unnecessary overlapping filters.

The Audio Experts Take
For a compact cinema or stereo system, the W10 is the Vestra model we would look at first. It provides a substantial step beyond relying on small speakers for bass, yet it does not demand the floor space of a larger cabinet.
The buying decision comes down to the room and expected playback levels. If the system needs high output over a wide seating area, the W12 offers more headroom, or two well-placed W10s may give a more even result. We can help work through those options alongside speaker crossover settings and subwoofer placement.
