Description

Monitor Audio Silver FX 7G Surround Speakers (Pair)

The Monitor Audio Silver FX 7G is a dedicated pair of wall-mountable surround speakers, combining a 6-inch RST II mid-bass driver, two angled C-CAM Gold Dome tweeters and switchable dipole/bipole operation to build a spacious, consistent home theatre surround field.

Silver FX 7G is designed for side and rear surround duties where seating positions, side walls and limited floor space make conventional standmount speakers awkward. Its shallow sealed cabinet sits close to the wall, with recessed terminals and integrated keyhole mounting points keeping the installation tidy.

As part of the Silver 7G family, it shares key driver technologies with the matching front and centre speakers. That gives installers a logical surround partner when building a consistent Monitor Audio system.

Switchable Dipole and Bipole Operation

Choose the dispersion pattern to suit the room

Each Silver FX 7G uses two tweeters mounted on angled sides of the cabinet. Switching between dipole and bipole operation changes the way they combine sound around the listening area. Bipole operation can provide a broad, enveloping surround presentation, while dipole operation creates a more diffuse field by changing the relative phase of the high-frequency output.

There is no single correct setting for every installation. Speaker position, distance from the seats, room geometry and the soundtrack formats you use should guide the choice. Where the surround channel layout calls for more precisely localised effects, a conventional direct-radiating speaker may be preferable.

C-CAM Tweeters with UD Waveguide II

Coverage across more than one seat

The two 25mm C-CAM Gold Dome tweeters use Uniform Dispersion Waveguide II and face outwards on angled baffles. This arrangement spreads high-frequency content more broadly than a conventional forward-facing tweeter, making it useful where several people sit across the sofa.

6-inch RST II Mid-Bass Driver

Body and clarity for effects channels

A 152mm C-CAM RST II mid-bass driver handles the lower and middle frequencies. Its rigid patterned cone helps control unwanted flexing, keeping surround effects and ambient detail well integrated with the front soundstage.

The published in-room frequency response is 81Hz to 35kHz at -6dB, so bass management is important. In most home theatre systems the AV receiver should redirect deeper bass to a subwoofer; the final crossover setting should be chosen during system setup.

Shallow Sealed Cabinet and Wall Mounting

Less visual intrusion, simpler cable planning

At 147mm deep, each speaker takes up relatively little room on a side or rear wall. The sealed design removes the need for clearance behind a reflex port, and recessed terminals help speaker cable sit neatly against the mounting surface.

Integrated keyhole mounting points are provided, but wall fixings must suit the wall material and support the 4.5kg weight of each speaker. Plan the cable exit and mounting height before drilling, particularly where the seating position is close to the wall.

Matching with Silver 7G Systems

Consistent technology across the theatre

Silver FX 7G pairs naturally with Silver 7G floorstanding or standmount front speakers and the Silver C250 7G centre-channel speaker. Consistent tweeter and mid-bass technologies help maintain familiar tonal character as content moves around the room.

The manufacturer's recommended amplifier range is 30–85W, with 87.5dB sensitivity and 8-ohm nominal impedance. Rather than deciding on wattage alone, consider the receiver's channel count, seating distance, listening levels and whether the surround channels are crossed over to a subwoofer.

Important Notes

  • These are passive surround speakers and require amplification from an AV receiver or suitable power amplifier.
  • Use appropriate wall fixings and confirm structure, mounting height and cable routing before installation.
  • Dipole/bipole mode should be selected to suit the room and surround configuration; direct-radiating speakers may be preferable in some immersive-audio layouts.
  • Subwoofer bass management is recommended for most home theatre systems.
  • Contact The Audio Experts to confirm current finish availability and wall-mounting suitability.

The Audio Experts Take

Silver FX 7G is worth considering when surround speakers need to deliver a convincing sense of space without taking over the room. The shallow wall-mounted format is useful beside or behind a sofa, and the two dispersion modes allow the installation to be tailored to the seating layout.

We would choose these particularly for a Silver 7G theatre where multiple listeners share a row of seats. The important decision is placement and surround format. If you want tightly localised object-based effects, we would compare them with direct-radiating surrounds before committing to the wall positions. Talk to us about the room plan and AV receiver so the surround channels are set up for the system you actually have.
