Description

Monitor Audio Silver C250 7G Centre Channel Speaker

The Monitor Audio Silver C250 7G is a compact three-way centre-channel speaker designed to keep dialogue clear across a wider seating area, using dedicated bass, midrange and high-frequency drivers in a sealed cabinet that is easier to place close to walls or inside AV furniture.

Its driver layout combines twin 5¼-inch RST II bass drivers with a dedicated 3-inch RST II midrange and a 25mm C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter with UD Waveguide II. That matters in a centre speaker because the centre channel carries most film dialogue and a large amount of front-stage information. A proper three-way design helps the C250 7G keep voices more consistent for listeners sitting away from the exact centre seat.

Three-Way Centre-Channel Design

Built to keep dialogue intelligible across the room

The Silver C250 7G separates bass, midrange and treble duties across dedicated drivers rather than asking the same mid/bass cones to cover the whole vocal range. The 3-inch RST II midrange sits in the centre of the baffle beneath the tweeter, while the two 5¼-inch bass drivers handle lower frequencies on either side.

That layout is especially useful in a home theatre because dialogue intelligibility should not collapse as soon as someone moves away from the main seat. The dedicated midrange helps keep speech focused while the bass drivers provide enough body for effects and soundtrack content without forcing the centre speaker to behave like a small full-range box.

C-CAM Gold Dome Tweeter with UD Waveguide II

Controlled high-frequency dispersion for multiple seats

Monitor Audio's 25mm C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter works with the Uniform Dispersion Waveguide II to control how high frequencies spread into the room. In a centre-channel application, that helps maintain tonal balance and speech detail across a broader horizontal listening area rather than concentrating the best result into one narrow position.

RST II Midrange and Bass Drivers

Rigid cone geometry with lower unwanted breakup

The midrange and bass drivers use Monitor Audio's Rigid Surface Technology II cone treatment. The patterned surface is designed to improve cone rigidity and control unwanted resonance as the drivers move through their operating range.

In practice, the benefit is cleaner handover between the bass, midrange and tweeter sections. That is important for voices because speech spans a broad range of frequencies and any unevenness through the crossover region can make dialogue sound boxy, recessed or overly sharp.

Sealed Cabinet for Easier Placement

Better suited to shelves and AV cabinetry

The C250 7G uses a sealed cabinet rather than a rear reflex port. That gives it more predictable behaviour when positioned close to a wall or inside an open-front AV unit, where a rear-ported design can become harder to integrate.

Placement still matters. Keep the front baffle as close as practical to the front edge of the cabinet or shelf so sound does not reflect heavily from the furniture around it, and avoid enclosing the speaker behind doors or deep inside a cavity.

Matching the Silver 7G Front Stage

Consistent driver technology across the home theatre

The Silver C250 7G is the natural centre-channel partner for Silver 7G front speakers because it uses the same core C-CAM, RST II and Gold Dome technologies. Matching the centre to the left and right speakers helps pans across the front soundstage remain more consistent in tone and scale.

It can also work in mixed systems where the priority is better dialogue and a capable centre channel, but the best result still comes from matching the front three speakers as closely as the room and budget allow.

Room and Amplifier Matching

Choose the centre speaker around the whole system

Monitor Audio rates the Silver C250 7G at 88.5dB sensitivity with a nominal 8-ohm impedance and recommends amplifier power in the 80–200W range. Those numbers are useful, but they are not the whole story. Room size, seating distance, crossover settings, AV receiver power sharing and how hard the system is expected to play all matter.

For most home theatre systems, the centre should be crossed over to the subwoofer rather than being asked to reproduce deep bass on its own. If you are unsure whether your AV receiver is the right match, talk to us and we can look at the complete speaker layout rather than just one wattage figure.

Important Notes

  • This product is sold as a single centre-channel speaker.
  • The sealed cabinet allows relatively flexible placement, but the front baffle should remain clear of deep cabinetry and obstructions.
  • For the most consistent front soundstage, match the centre speaker to the left and right channels where practical.
  • AV receiver and crossover settings should be chosen around the complete speaker and subwoofer system rather than the centre speaker alone.

The Audio Experts Take

The Silver C250 7G is the centre speaker we would choose when dialogue coverage across more than one seat matters, but the room still needs something compact enough to sit comfortably below a TV or inside a normal AV unit.

The dedicated midrange is the important part here. It gives Monitor Audio more control over the vocal range than a simpler two-way centre design, while the sealed cabinet makes placement less fussy than a rear-ported speaker in the same space.

If you already have Silver 7G front speakers, the C250 7G is the obvious match. If you are building from scratch, we would look at the whole front stage, subwoofer position and seating layout together so the centre channel ends up doing the job it is supposed to do rather than simply being the speaker that fits the shelf.
