Description

Marantz CINEMA 60 Series 2 7.2-Channel AV Receiver

The Marantz CINEMA 60 Series 2 is a full-width 7.2-channel AV receiver built for high-quality movie, music and gaming systems, combining 100 watts per channel, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, HEOS streaming, modern 8K HDMI connectivity and flexible room-correction options in Marantz's current CINEMA design.

Series 2 updates the CINEMA 60 around a newly upgraded 32-bit 8-channel DAC and keeps the parts that make this model practical in a real system: seven powered channels, full 7.2 pre-outs, six rear HDMI inputs, dual HDMI outputs, phono input, Zone 2, HEOS multi-room audio and useful custom-install control.

Seven Powered Channels for Real-World Home Cinema

100 watts per channel with flexible speaker assignment

CINEMA 60 Series 2 provides seven discrete power-amplifier channels rated at 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms with two channels driven. That gives it the right architecture for a conventional 5.1 or 7.1 system, or a 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos layout without adding external amplification.

Speaker assignment also supports bi-amping and Zone 2 use. For larger rooms or more demanding speakers, the 7.2-channel pre-outs allow the receiver to feed external power amplification while retaining its processing, switching and streaming functions.

Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Modern Surround Processing

Immersive formats without overstating the platform

Support includes Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization, Dolby Surround, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS:X, DTS Neural:X and DTS Virtual:X. CINEMA 60 Series 2 does not support DTS:X Pro or IMAX Enhanced, so this model is best suited to seven-channel systems rather than customers planning a more expansive processor-led theatre.

Updated DAC and Marantz HDAM Architecture

A cleaner digital-to-analogue stage for movies and music

Marantz has upgraded CINEMA 60 Series 2 with a new 32-bit 8-channel DAC section. The analogue stages use Marantz HDAM-SA2 modules and current-feedback topology, with Pure Direct available when you want the shortest practical signal path for two-channel listening.

This matters for customers who expect an AV receiver to work as a serious music source as well as a movie hub. The design is still system-focused rather than boutique two-channel minimalism, but the analogue section is engineered with the same attention to clarity and balance Marantz applies across the CINEMA range.

Audyssey MultEQ XT with Dirac Live Upgrade Support

Room correction that can grow with the system

Out of the box, CINEMA 60 Series 2 includes Audyssey MultEQ XT with Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume. For customers who want to go further, the platform is also upgradable to Dirac Live through a separately purchased licence.

Room correction is most useful after the fundamentals are right. Speaker placement, subwoofer position, crossover choices and seating layout still matter. We recommend treating calibration as the final optimisation step rather than a substitute for good system setup.

8K HDMI and Gaming Support

Three high-bandwidth inputs for current consoles and sources

The receiver includes six rear HDMI inputs and two HDMI outputs. Three HDMI inputs support 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz pass-through at up to 40Gbps, with eARC, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG, Dynamic HDR, VRR, ALLM and QFT support. AMD FreeSync is supported on HDMI inputs 4 to 6.

This makes CINEMA 60 Series 2 a sensible hub for a TV or projector system with multiple sources, while the dual HDMI outputs are useful where a room needs to feed two displays from the same receiver.

HEOS, Roon Ready and High-Resolution Music

Streaming built into the receiver

HEOS provides network streaming and multi-room playback, with support for services including TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect and Spotify Connect. CINEMA 60 Series 2 is also Roon Ready and supports AirPlay 2.

Local and network playback supports FLAC, WAV and ALAC up to 192kHz/24-bit, plus DSD at 2.8 and 5.6MHz. Bluetooth can also retransmit audio to compatible Bluetooth headphones, which can be useful for late-night viewing.

Connectivity for More Than Just HDMI

Phono, optical, coaxial, USB and Zone 2 are all covered

Alongside HDMI, CINEMA 60 Series 2 provides four analogue inputs, a moving-magnet phono input, two optical inputs, two coaxial digital inputs, front USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There is also an analogue Zone 2 output, assignable Zone 2 speaker operation, a 12V trigger, IR flasher input, IP control and web control.

Important Notes

  • Dirac Live requires a separately purchased licence.
  • CINEMA 60 Series 2 supports seven powered channels and 7.1-channel processing; customers planning larger 9-, 11- or 13-channel systems should look further up the CINEMA range.
  • DTS:X Pro and IMAX Enhanced are not supported on this model.
  • Allow adequate ventilation around the receiver, particularly in enclosed cabinetry.
  • Speaker and subwoofer matching should be considered as part of the complete room and system rather than from wattage figures alone.

The Audio Experts Take

CINEMA 60 Series 2 is the sensible Marantz choice when the system genuinely needs seven channels and you would rather put the budget into better speakers, subwoofers or installation than buy processing channels you will never use.

It covers the formats and connectivity most current lounge-room and dedicated-room systems need, including 4K/120 gaming, eARC, HEOS, Roon and proper 7.2 pre-outs. The Dirac upgrade path is also valuable because it gives the receiver room to grow if the system becomes more serious later.

For a 5.1.2 Atmos room or a quality 7.1 system, this is a well-balanced platform. We would focus on speaker placement, subwoofer integration and ventilation first, then use Audyssey or Dirac to finish the job. If you are unsure whether CINEMA 60 Series 2 has enough channels for the room you are planning, talk to us before committing and we can map the layout properly.
