Series 2 keeps the layout that made the CINEMA 50 a useful system-building receiver, but updates the digital section with a new 32-bit DAC platform. CINEMA 50 Series 2 has nine onboard power-amplifier channels rated at 110W per channel into 8 ohms with two channels driven. In practical theatre layouts, that makes 5.1.4 and 7.1.2 systems straightforward without immediately adding separate power amplification.

The processing stage extends to 11.4 channels and Marantz provides full 11.4-channel pre-outs. If the room later moves to a 7.1.4 layout, an external two-channel power amplifier can take care of the additional pair while the receiver remains the control centre. All six rear HDMI inputs support 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz pass-through at up to 40Gbps, with eARC, HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG and Dynamic HDR. Gaming support includes VRR, ALLM and Quick Frame Transport, with AMD FreeSync compatibility.

HEOS Built-in provides network streaming and multi-room control, with AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, internet radio and high-resolution local playback. Roon Ready support makes it easier to fold the receiver into a more developed whole-home or library-based music system.

The analogue side is still well covered, including five analogue inputs, a moving-magnet phono input, two optical and two coaxial digital inputs. Bluetooth transmission can send the receiver's audio to compatible Bluetooth headphones when quieter late-night listening is needed.
