Description

Hegel C55 5x150W Power Amplifier

Five-channel high-current power amplifier rated at 150W per channel into 8 ohms under Hegel published conditions, with SoundEngine2, balanced and unbalanced inputs, and rack-ready integration for premium home theatre systems.

The Hegel C55 puts five substantial amplifier channels into one chassis, making it an obvious core power amplifier for a high-performance home theatre built around a separate processor. It uses the same SoundEngine2 architecture and heavy-duty power design as the wider Hegel Custom range.

The previous catalogue page repeatedly described the C55 as a six-channel amplifier. The official C55 is a five-channel model.

Five Matching High-Current Channels

A natural fit for front, centre and surround bed-layer duties

Hegel specifies 150W, 300W and 600W per channel into 8, 4 and 2 ohms respectively at 1kHz and 1% THD. The amplifier supports minimum loads down to 2 ohms, giving it the current capability required for many demanding loudspeakers.

SoundEngine2

Hegel low-distortion control across a multi-channel platform

SoundEngine2 continuously corrects amplifier error to reduce crossover distortion while preserving dynamic behaviour. In a theatre system, using the same amplifier architecture across five main channels can help maintain consistent tonal and dynamic behaviour.

Balanced and RCA Inputs

Five XLR and five RCA inputs with per-channel configuration

Each channel has balanced and unbalanced input options plus selectable 23/29dB gain and phase control. That gives installers useful flexibility when matching processor output levels and system architecture.

Serious Rack Hardware

Plan the physical installation before the amplifier arrives

At 37.5kg, the C55 is a major rack component. Shelf loading, ventilation, cable bend radius, mains power and safe handling need to be planned as part of the system rather than solved at the end.

System Fit and Buying Advice

A power amplifier such as Hegel C55 5x150W should be chosen around the job it is doing in the system. The processor or preamplifier, speaker layout, rack ventilation and cable plan all matter, and multi-channel systems do not necessarily need the same amplifier on every channel.

Important Notes

  • Published 150/300/600W figures are measured at 1kHz and 1% THD; compare power ratings only when test conditions are equivalent.
  • At 37.5kg, professional rack handling and adequate ventilation are strongly recommended.

The Audio Experts Take

The C55 gives you five matching channels in one chassis, making it a natural foundation for a high-quality home theatre or a useful partner to a processor in a larger Atmos system. We would decide where it belongs by looking at the speaker layout and any existing amplification rather than treating five channels as a fixed recipe. Talk to us about the rack and channel plan and we can help allocate the amplifier sensibly.
