Description

Hegel C54 4x150W Power Amplifier

Four-channel high-current power amplifier rated at 150W per channel into 8 ohms under Hegel published conditions, with SoundEngine2, balanced and unbalanced inputs, and rack-ready custom-install design.

The Hegel C54 is a four-channel power amplifier developed for premium home theatre and custom-install systems where channel consistency, current delivery and rack integration matter. It brings Hegel's SoundEngine2 feedback architecture into a multi-channel chassis without turning each channel into a cut-down version of a stereo amplifier.

The previous catalogue page understated the C54 substantially. Hegel publishes 150W per channel into 8 ohms at 1kHz and 1% THD, with considerably higher output into lower impedances.

Four High-Current Channels

Built for demanding surround, height or active-system duties

Hegel specifies 150W, 300W and 600W per channel into 8, 4 and 2 ohms respectively at its published 1kHz/1% THD condition, with 2-ohm minimum impedance support. That gives the C54 a very different role from lightweight zone amplifiers.

SoundEngine2 Technology

Low-distortion control across all four channels

Hegel's SoundEngine2 error-correction architecture is used to reduce crossover distortion and maintain control without relying on high amounts of global negative feedback. In a cinema, consistent behaviour across channels matters just as much as raw output.

Balanced and RCA Inputs

Per-channel connection and gain flexibility

Four XLR and four RCA inputs are provided, with per-channel gain options of 23 or 29dB and phase control. That makes the C54 easier to integrate with different processors, active crossovers and system gain structures.

Rack-Ready Chassis

Designed for professional installation environments

The C54 is a heavy 33kg amplifier with a deep chassis, so rack depth, shelf loading, ventilation and mains planning need to be treated as part of the installation.

System Fit and Buying Advice

A power amplifier such as Hegel C54 4x150W should be chosen around the job it is doing in the system. The processor or preamplifier, speaker layout, rack ventilation and cable plan all matter, and multi-channel systems do not necessarily need the same amplifier on every channel.

Amplification

  • Channels:4
  • Minimum impedance:2 ohms
  • THD:<0.01% at 100W/8 ohms/1kHz
  • S/N ratio:>100dB
  • Damping factor:>2000

Integration

  • Inputs:XLR and RCA per channel
  • Gain:23 or 29dB per channel

Important Notes

  • Published 150/300/600W figures are measured at 1kHz and 1% THD; do not compare them directly with full-bandwidth ratings from other amplifiers.
  • At 33kg, rack loading, ventilation and safe handling require planning.

The Audio Experts Take

The C54 is useful when four matching power channels solve the system layout more neatly than a conventional two- or five-channel amplifier. That can suit a cinema using paired surrounds or heights, or an installation where channel allocation is being planned around other amplifiers already in the rack. The right choice comes down to the complete channel map, so we are happy to help plan it before you order.
