The MRX SLM is different from most AV receivers because compact installation is the starting point rather than an afterthought. Its chassis is only 43mm high with feet and can be used in a cabinet, rack or discreetly behind a compatible display installation.

That smaller form does come with a clear system brief. This is a five-channel receiver, so it is aimed at well-executed 5.1 rooms and other compact layouts rather than large 7.x.4 cinemas.

Five Channels in a 1U-Scale Chassis

Built for places where conventional AV hardware is simply too large.

Anthem specifies 50W per channel into 8 ohms across five channels. The chassis is 279mm wide and 279mm deep, or 432mm wide with the rackmount kit, and can occupy 1U in a rack.

The physical format opens up useful installation options, but it also makes planning important. Cable bend radius, ventilation, access to HDMI connections and service access need to be considered before the unit disappears behind a television or into joinery.

Anthem Room Correction Genesis

The feature that separates it from many compact AV solutions.

ARC Genesis is included to measure the room and apply correction to the loudspeaker and subwoofer system. In small media rooms, where speakers are often closer to walls and seating positions are constrained by furniture, that can be especially valuable.

Room correction cannot fix poor speaker positions or an undersized subwoofer, so the best result still starts with sensible layout and calibration rather than relying on software to rescue the room afterwards.

HDMI eARC and a Focused Connection Set

The MRX SLM 4K uses HDMI 2.0b with eARC and HDCP 2.3, supporting the sort of system where the television is the main video hub and the receiver handles multichannel audio. Wireless streaming is included for everyday music use.

Because the product is deliberately compact, buyers should compare the actual connection requirements against the system before ordering. If there are many legacy sources, extensive analogue connections or a large future Atmos plan, a conventional full-size MRX receiver is the better platform.
